Chivas tournament started as a dream, but the comparisons between this team and the 2017 champions put the expectations too high. The squad start failing on the key matches and Vucetich was forced to make some changes. Some of them were for the best, but the other had no explanation.

Fernando Beltrán turned from a main midfielder to a substitute that never plays. The last time he started a match for Chivas was against Pumas UNAM almost 60 days ago. He is one of the best players of the squad if we talk about the technical and the team made a huge effort and invested money on his contract renewal.

Apparently, Beltrán does not meet the requirements that Vucetich expect from a midfielder. The system that the coach likes implies playing with two defensive midfielders that can get back the ball more than attack and create opportunities. That’s why Fernando does not fit.

The coach decided to play with Jesús Angulo and Isaac Brizuela, both midfielders that are used to play near the line and feel comfortable there. It is a different way of attacking, with more 1v1 plays and a necessity of pace and stamina. Should Fernando Beltran be considered again?
