Chivas achieved an unforgettable victory against Club America on the first match of the quarter-finals of tournament Guard1anes. The only goal scored by the locals was made by Cristian Chicote Calderón, who transformed himself into the unexpected hero of the night.
Calderón entered just a couple of minutes before the hour of the game, replacing Fernando Beltrán Cruz. His entry was unexpected, as he hadn’t been playing the last matches for Chivas. Head coach Víctor Vucetich finally considered that he needed some minutes on the field and the player didn’t waste them.
Chicote scored an incredible goal at the 81st minute and gave his team an incredible victory. The player celebrated it effusively as he had only played four minutes in the last four matches. Vucetich didn’t place him against Atlas, gave him four minutes against Cruz Azul and sent him to the bench against Pumas UNAM and Monterrey.
After the goal, fans went crazy with Chicote and started asking for him to play more time on Chivas immediately. Vucetich may have thought that he was not a key player and sport adviser Ricardo Peláez could have even believed that he was transferable, but things changed now. On November 29 both teams will play the second match on Stadium Azteca.
