Chelsea Football Club has mastered the art of the transfer window. Despite having Russian oligarch, Roman Abramovich as its owner, the club has consistently found value and made money from player deals. This is occasioned by frequently turning a profit or breaking even despite spending huge sums on player incomings.

During this summer transfer window, the Chelsea recruitment team led by Marina Granovskaia has shown its expertise again. Despite splashing £98m on acquiring Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan, they have perfectly balanced the books by making just that exam sum in player sums. The hotshot striker is the only player they have paid a transfer fee for this summer. Their only other summer recruit is third-choice goalkeeper, Bertinelli, who they got on a free transfer.

Chelsea has thus made a whopping £98m by selling the following players: Tammy Abraham (£35m), Fikayo Tomori (£25m), Marc Guehi (£20m), Tino Livramento (£5m), Ike Ugbo (£5m), Victor Moses (£4m), Lewis Bate (£1.5m), Simeu (£1.5m) and Olivier Giroud (£1m). More impressively is the majority of these players do not even play in their first team. Giroud and Abraham who do are regarded surplus to requirement.

The Blues could still make more money this summer with first-team players such as Ross Barkley, Kurt Zouma, Danny Drinkwater, Emerson Palmieri still expected to leave the club either on loan or on permanent transfers. In a period where many clubs are reluctant to spend money and others are struggling with finances, it is commendable for a club to make close to £100m in player sales only.
