Bayern Munich is set to implement a stricter wage structure with a maximum cap of €20m annual wages for players at the club. As it stands, the Bavarians are one of the most frugal top clubs in Europe with a lean wage structure as against what obtains in England or Spain. And now, in the wake of Covid-19, the measures are set to be stricter.

The players are expected to be categorised into 4 levels with Level 1 consisting of players like Robert Lewandowski, Manuel Neuer and Leroy Sane with wages up to €20m a year. At the second level are players like Kingsley Conan and Leon Goretzka with salaries up to €15m a year while level 3 would consist of players earning up to €10m a year e.g. Niklas Sule & Serge Gnabry. The final level would consist of players like Musiala and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting with an annual salary of €5m.

Going by the wages from the 2020-21 season, the top 5 earners at the German Champions are top shot striker Robert Lewandowski (€417,000), utility player Thomas Mueller (€333,000), defender Jerome Boateng (€250,000), Niklas Sule (€208,500) and former Manchester City winger Leroy Sane (€167,000).

The least 5 earners at the club are English-trained Jamal Musiala (€5,000), Fiete Arp (€5,000), Chris Richards (€10,000), Ron Thorben-Hoffman (€10,500) and new goalkeeper Alexander Nubel (€25,000). All wages above are weekly wages for the club.

Despite this strict salary regime, Bayern Munich is still the best-paying club in Germany with an annual wage bill of €160m. They are also the most successful on the field with record Bundesliga titles and also won the UEFA Champions League in 2020 after defeating super-rich PSG by 1-0 in Lisbon.
