Gareth Southgate and his staff were impressed with the recent performances of the Eagles defender, so they called him up for the friendly matches against Switzerland and Ivory Coast in Wembley.

Who is Marc Guehi?

Addji Keaninkin Marc-Israel Guehi is a British naturalized Ivorian soccer player who currently plays in the position of the defender for Crystal Palace F. C. of the English Premier League.

Guehi was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on July 13, 2000, so he is currently 21 years old, but despite his youth, he already has a lot of experience as a professional footballer.

The defender started his career at the age of 7 by training in Chelsea's lower divisions, and in 2019 he saw his dream of playing for the first team come true, on September 25 in a League Cup match against Grimsby Town F. C.

Guehi played all ninety minutes of the match, Chelsea winning 7-1, and despite the fact that thanks to his good performance everyone thought he would stay at the club to earn a place, the defender was transferred on January 10, 2020.

His new club: Swansea City A. F. C., a club for which he played until the end of that season, although in August of that same year both Chelsea and Swansea decided to extend the loan for another year.

Marc Guehi: from loan to star defender for Crystal Palace in the Premier League

After his time at Swansea, Guehi arrived at the club where he would become a top-level defender: Crystal Palace. In this club, the player has achieved numbers that have made him an indispensable player in the club.

For example, he has won more than 67% of his duels for the ball, on 11 occasions he has managed to leave with a clean sheet and has won more than 57% of the aerial duels for the ball. With these numbers, it was impossible for him not to make it to the English national soccer team.

Is this the first time Marc Guehi will be called up to the English national soccer team?

In the case of the senior national team yes, as he has previously been capped 16 times at U-21 level, so this will be his consecration in the 3 Lions, with the opportunity to prove to everyone that his place is more than just a place for himself.
