In the meantime, Middlesbrough were the surprise of the fourth round of the FA Cup, after beating Manchester United on penalty kicks. The match ended 1-1 in regular and extra time, so the game was defined from the spot kick. The Red Devils continue struggling as a team and Ralf Rangnick has not been able to return them to the winning path.
The London sides, such as Chelsea and West Ham, advanced to the next round although both teams had many problems beating their opponents. The Hammers won against Kidderminster Harriers 2-1 and the Blues won against Plymouth by the same result. Both matches went to extra time and were solved before the penalty kicks.
Manchester City smashed Fulham 4-1. Guardiola’s side showed why they are the strongest team in England and with the help of the Belgian Kevin De Bryune and the Algerian Riyad Mahrez, the Sky Blues advanced to the next round.
Lampard made his debut as a coach with the Toffees, and the Liverpool side knocked out Brentford which suffered the motivation of the players who have just changed their manager. The final result was 4-1 in favor of Lampard’s team.
The other teams that have booked their ticket to the next round are Southampton, Crystal Palace, Norwich City, Stoke City, Peterborough United, and Huddersfield Town.
The draw for the fifth round will be made on Sunday 6 February, before the fourth-round tie between Liverpool and Cardiff City.
That game kicks off at 12:00 (UK) and the draw, which will be conducted by former City striker Andrew Cole, is expected to begin at approximately 11:40.
