The season for Liverpool continues as they remain in the hunt for one last trophy in the final week of the campaign, but that hasn't slowed down off-field discussions when it comes to signing new players as Jurgen Klopp looks to add to his already impressive squad.

In doing so, the Reds are making progress in their preparations for next season as Jurgen Klopp's side aim to continue dominating English soccer and Europe, and are now reportedly interested in signing Juventus defender Matthijs De Ligt to help them with that ambition.

The Dutch center-back has been one of the standout players within his position for several seasons and, although the Reds are already well stacked in that area, they appear to still be interested in bolstering their options.

According to Italian media outlet Calciomercato, via TEAMtalk the Reds are "thinking about" making a move to bring De Ligt to Anfield this summer, where he would very much fight for the starting line-up with Virgil Van Dijk, Ibrahim Konaté, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip.

The Reds' links to defense are a surprise because of the depth they currently possess in that area. All four defenders are already vying for the starting spot and doing so in a big way. Even Klopp, sometimes, has to field Joe Gomez at right-back when Trent Alexander Arnold is rested or unavailable, in order to give the Englishman minutes.

Matthijs de Ligt asks Juventus to lower the price of his release clause

According to Corriere dello Sport, per Sport Witness (h/t Liverpool Echo), Matthijs de Ligt has requested Juventus to lower his high release clause amid Liverpool's apparent interest in his signature.

Chelsea and Barcelona are also linked with a move for the defender, whose release clause is €125 million. His contract expires in the summer of 2024 and his release clause could rise to €140 million next season.

He has paired up with Liverpool's van Dijk in the Netherlands defense and has also partnered former LFC star Georginio Wijnaldum. Whether he becomes another Dutch star to wear red for Liverpool remains to be seen.

Matthijs de Ligt joined Juventus in a high-profile move from Ajax in 2019. Even at his young age, he captained the Amsterdam side to the 2018/19 Champions League semifinal.
