Erik ten Hag has made Lisandro Martinez his priority signing for Manchester United's defense, according to reports from England.
Manchester United already considering alternatives to Frenkie de Jong
United and Premier League rivals Arsenal share a strong interest in the 24 year-old Argentine, signed by ten Hag for Ajax in 2019. Arsenal's interest is more formalized and the Gunners have tabled multiple bids for the player, most recently a €40 million bid plus add-ons.
Ajax are demanding a fee of €50 million, and while United are yet to submit their own bid, their interest has been made clear. The Dutch champions are hoping that their valuation will be met considering the interest of multiple clubs.
Ten Hag and United have turned their attention to the signing of a center midfielder, having made good progress in negotiations for Dutch internationals Frenkie de Jong and Tyrell Malacia, from Barcelona and Ajax respectively. The finishing efforts are being made on both signings and United hope to have them finalized in coming days.
While Antony has been identified as Manchester United's priority signing for the summer market, following the deal for De Jong, Arsenal's decision to move for Martinez has brought United to the table for fear of losing him to the rival London club.
