UEFA Champions League: Kevin de Bruyne gives Manchester City the win over Atletico Madrid

Foden, just 21 years old, has just given the Sky Blue the lead in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League tie against a dangerous Atletico Madrid today.

The Colchoneros came out so convinced to defend their area against Manchester City's attacks thanks to Diego Pablo Simeone's game plan, that they made Guardiola reorganize his attacking plan.

And in that reorganization, Josep Guardiola brought on Phil Foden. Two minutes later, Foden sent a through ball to Kevin de Bruyne to score the 1-0 goal, which gave City the advantage for the second leg.

And it all looks like a fairytale romance between Phil Foden and Manchester City, doesn't it? Well, not really, as a storm is brewing on the horizon for the Citizens because of a player who seduces the club.

The player who would arrive at Manchester City and who jeopardizes Phil Foden's renewal

The player who jeopardizes Phil Foden's renewal with Manchester City is none other than Erling Haalan, the Norwegian striker of Borussia Dortmund, who is the temptation of Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich.

And it is that a few weeks ago, Manchester City joined the hunt for this young talent, for which they are willing to pay 30 million euros per season, which has generated a drawback to the club with Foden.

Why does the arrival of Erling Haaland jeopardize Phil Foden's renewal with Manchester City?

The conflict has erupted because Phil Foden has realized that his club is willing to pay 30 million euros per season to Haaland, so the young British star would have asked to renegotiate his contract, according to the Daily Star.

According to the media, Foden had already reached an agreement in principle last October for 150,000 pounds a week (7.8 million) but would like a review of the offer made to Haaland.

The City would thus be forced to decide whether to go ahead with the signing of the Borussia Dortmund player, or whether to keep Foden, as paying both players the same salary would be impossible for the institution.

Currently, the young Briton has played 34 games for City, scoring 11 goals and providing 8 assists.

And this afternoon in the match against Atlético de Madrid, Phil Foden proved his worth, as before he came on the pitch, City had not been able to break through Atleti's defensive wall.

What will be better for Manchester City, to sign Erling Haaland, or to renegotiate the contract with Phil Foden?
