Liverpool stay in City's slipstream at Brighton's expense with Luis Diaz starring

Liverpool beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 on matchday 29 of the Premier League to keep pace with leaders Manchester City. Colombian Luis Diaz showed his bravery by putting his body on the line against Robert Sanchez for Liverpool's first goal in the 2-0 win over the Seagulls.

Diaz took advantage of a great pass from Joel Matip behind the back of the defense to anticipate Sanchez and score with his head, taking a terrible blow from the Spanish goalkeeper, who could have been sent off. The VAR reviewed the action, in which Sanchez hit Diaz with his fist and leg, but determined that it was not grounds for a red card.

The Colombian, in pain, could not even celebrate the goal, which went up on the scoreboard and allowed Liverpool to recover from a good start of the Seagulls and take a lead that they would not let go.

Brighton had a good chance to equalize in the second half when Leandro Trossard's shot from inside the box sailed over the bar, but it was Liverpool who scored the winner.

Jürgen Klopp's team had chances on the counter to increase the score, but the clearest chance was for Brighton, with a shot from Danny Welbeck that Alisson saved spectacularly to keep his team's goal clean sheet.

With this victory, Liverpool continues its hunt for Manchester City in the Premier League and closes the gap to three points, with the same number of games played and a direct duel on April 10. Brighton, already far away from the European places, remain thirteenth with 33 points.
