The two sides have failed to agree on a new contract, and now details have emerged of the figure Mane was demanding to sign a new contract.
De Jong's comments bring smiles to Lewandowski's faces but put Manchester United on alert
According to the Mirror, Mane was expecting around £400,000 a week for a four-year contract. Including bonuses, the figure would amount to around £83 million. The Senegal international wants his wages to be in line with others at his level in the league, and the report claims that the figure demanded by Mane would see him on a similar salary to Kevin De Bruyne and Cristiano Ronaldo.
In addition, Bayern Munich are close to agreeing a three-year contract for Mane, with wages of around £360,000 a week, so it seems the 30-year-old is not just interested in the money.
Mane is looking for a new challenge, but he would have stayed on Merseyside if he was offered a monumental wage package. Liverpool may find themselves in a similar situation with Mohamed Salah, whose contract also expires next year.
If Liverpool do not break with their wage structure and start offering their star players similar figures to the highest earners in the Premier League.
