Since arriving to Anfield in 2020, the former Red Bull Salzburg forward has failed to maintain a spot in the first team. The Japanese forward has scored 14 goals in 55 games for Liverpool after spending the second half of the 2020–21 season on loan at Southampton.

Liverpool will receive a set fee of €15 million, with potential add-ons of around €3 million. Other clubs showed interest for Minamino before the deal with Monaco was announced, including Premier League clubs Leeds, Fulham and Wolverhampton’s Wolves. He agreed to personal terms with his new club and will sign a new contract pending his medical.

Minamino never reached his full potential with Liverpool, and with the club bringing in Darwin Nuñez from Benfica and Fabio Carvalho from Fulham there is simply no more room to grow for the Japanese international.

Minamino was cherished by Liverpool supporters.

Even though his spell at the club was far from the best, fans of the club have a soft spot for the striker, since he scored important goals in the League Cup and FA Cup leading to Liverpool lifting those titles. Now fans must see him go alongside Senegalese sensation Sadio Mané, who is heading to Bayern Munich this summer.
