The superstar returned to Old Trafford last summer in a sensational transfer that delighted United fans around the world. Ronaldo could now embark on a new challenge away from Manchester and could leave for another European giant this summer. The Portuguese international has one year left on his contract with United, but that does not rule out a move to another team.

In a report for The Times, Duncan Castles has reported, "Cristiano Ronaldo has asked to be allowed to leave Manchester United Football Club if the Premier League club receive a satisfactory offer in the transfer window. His decision is motivated by a desire to play in the Champions League for the remainder of his career."

Furthermore, Castles added: "Cristiano Ronaldo believes he has "three or four years" left at the highest level and would like to spend them at a club where he will be able to add to his team and individual achievements."

Ronaldo's season with United

Ronaldo has scored 24 goals in 36 appearances for United in the past season and aims to remain in good shape to reach the Qatar 2022 World Cup, his last major appointment with the Portugal national team. The English press reports that Ronaldo believes that the best thing for his immediate future is to look for a team that competes at the highest continental level.
