This was reported by the news agency EFE, which, thanks to anonymous sources, revealed that this Monday the Russian billionaire will be sanctioned by the European body. 

The sanctions that the European Union plans to take against Abramovich are in addition to those he is already facing

According to the news agency, the European Union has prepared a new package of sanctions against the owner of Chelsea, in addition to those that the Russian billionaire already had. 

For example, this Saturday the Premier League stripped him of his permission to run the club after the British government froze his assets last week, which prevents the Blues from carrying out player operations and obtaining income from the sale of tickets and merchandise. 

In addition, the Russian billionaire is already under investigation in Portugal for alleged irregularities in the granting of his nationality as a descendant of Sephardic Jews.

The EU sanctions also include measures against commercial and financial operations with Russia

In addition to the aforementioned sanctions, the European body contemplates applying commercial and financial sanctions against Russia. 

Among these sanctions, it is foreseen to deny Russia the status of the most favored nation in the European markets by revoking its benefits within the framework of the World Trade Organization.

In addition, the import of key goods in sectors such as iron and steel from Russia will be banned, as well as new European investments in the entire energy sector. 

In this way, the European organization seeks to exert pressure on Abramovich and other Russian millionaires in order to weaken their country and thus try to dissuade Vladimir Putin's government from invading Ukraine. 

Sanctions on Russia already affect a number of Russian individuals and entities

The sanctions that the European Union has arranged since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began already affect 862 Russian individuals and 53 Russian entities, including Vladimir Putin himself. 

The rest of the sanctions on Russian individuals and entities with operations in the EU are expected to be approved this Monday afternoon, when the written process launched by the EU is finalized. 

Faced with the avalanche of sanctions that were launched in recent weeks on the Chelse duel, the latter decided to step aside and therefore put the English club up for sale.

Thus, Abramovich will have to lose Chelsea, the current UEFA Champions League, and FIFA Club World Cup, winner.
