This will be the second time that Brentford and Aston Villa face each other on the Premier League, the first time being this season, on the first round of the tournament. The last time they faced in a Tier I division, it was called League Division One, back in 1947.
They’ve had 15 previous encounters, in which Aston Villa has won six of them and Brentford won on three other occasions. Both teams have tied six more times, between league and cup games.
On their last 5 encounters, Bees and Villans have tied three times and Brentford imposed the other two occasions over Aston Villa.
In a match that seems to be very tight at least on paper, Aston Villa has a slightly better chance of winning the game, either it’s because they are more rested or because of the better position they have in Premier League’s standings. According to FanDuel, Brentford has +200 odds if they win the game and Aston Villa odds are at +145. The safest bet is going for a draw, as the odds are +220 for this choice.
Brentford received Manchester City for their last game of the year, in a game the Bees lost 1-0. The defeat of the Bees, added to the late draw Brighton rescued from Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, is helping Premier League leader get closer to their second championship in a row, as now the Citizens are eight points away from Chelsea.
On the pitch of Brentford Community Stadium, the game was one-sided from the start, as the Sky Blues dominated the match without any issues. The lone goal scored during the game came after Kevin de Bruyne assisted Phil Foden on a goal that had to be validated by the VAR.
The Villans will arrive to the match with more rested, as their game against Burnley was postponed. Their last match was against Chelsea, where Aston Villa received Chelsea in a game that The Blues won 3-1, with goals from Reece James at 28’, Romelu Lukaku at 56’ and at 93’. For Aston Villa side Jorginho scored at 34’ via penalty kick.
Reports around the league suggest that Manchester United is interested in acquiring Aston Villa’s goalkeeper Emiliano “Dibu” Martinez for the 2022/2023 season. The Argentinean is under contract with The Villans until 2023 and if Man Utd wants him will have to pay around $67 million for his transfer. Ultimately, the decision will be made after the Red Devils decide if they want to keep De Gea or part ways with their current goalkeeper.
