Trusty will remain on loan with the Rapids until July 17, when he will join Arsenal for pre-season training ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

Both Arsenal and Colorado Rapids are owned by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment.

Pádraig Smith statements

"Auston finished an outstanding 2021 season in which he played a vital role in helping us finish in first place in the Western Conference for the first time in our history," Pádraig Smith, Rapids executive vice president, and general manager assessed via a press release.

"We remain committed to the best young players in Colorado and the United States to provide them with a platform where they can flourish, achieve success in MLS, and earn an opportunity to try their luck in Europe."

"Auston's outstanding performances caught the attention of several European clubs over the past 12 months and we are privileged to be part of an organization with the scale of Kroenke Sports & Entertainment that allows us to enable a player of Auston's potential to fulfill his development and career aspirations in Europe."

Trusty has also played for Philadelphia Union

Auston Trusty, 23, has spent the past two seasons in Colorado after joining the team in November 2019 from the Philadelphia Union, where he spent four seasons as a homegrown player. He has scored three goals and generated five assists in 97 regular-season appearances (94 starts).

Trusty has yet to make his debut for the U.S. senior national team, although he was called up to the national team camp in January of this year.

The left-footed defender is Colorado's most recent transfer abroad in the last year, following the departure of fullback Sam Vines to Royal Antwerp in Belgium and midfielder Cole Bassett to Feyenoord Rotterdam in the Dutch Eredivisie.
