Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly locked in a fierce battle to sign highly-rated Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes. The Brazilian has been turning heads in the Premier League with his impressive performances and both Premier League giants are keen to secure his signature.

A Rising Star

The 22-year-old has quickly established himself as a key player for Wolves since his arrival from Flamengo in January 2023. His ability to dictate the tempo of the game, his strong tackling, and his eye for a pass have made him one of the most sought-after young midfielders in Europe.

With 22 appearances and two goals to his name this season, Gomes has caught the attention of some of the biggest clubs in the world. His performances have led to comparisons with his compatriot Casemiro, who has struggled to find his best form at Manchester United.

United's Interest

Manchester United see Gomes as the ideal replacement for Casemiro, who could potentially leave the club in the near future. The Red Devils have been monitoring Gomes' progress for several months and are believed to be ready to make a significant offer for the Brazilian.

Liverpool's Pursuit

Liverpool are also keen to strengthen their midfield and believe that Gomes would be a valuable addition to their squad. The Reds are known for their ability to identify and develop young talent, and they see Gomes as a player who could fit seamlessly into their system.

Wolves' Stance

Wolves are reluctant to lose Gomes, who is seen as a key part of their future plans. However, the club's financial situation may force them to sell if they receive a suitable offer. Wolves are reportedly demanding a fee of around £60 million for the Brazilian.

What the Experts Say

Former scout Mick Brown has confirmed the interest from both Manchester United and Liverpool. "United and Liverpool have been keeping a close eye on him. Both have had scouts at Wolves games, so they'll be well aware of what he can bring to a team. All the top clubs are looking at teams at the bottom end of the league to see if any of their players are ready to make the step up. We know Wolves have had some financial issues, so clubs will be looking to explore if they can make a move and take advantage of that. But I think to get him away from Wolves, it will take a big offer, because they don't want to let him go, especially not mid-season," Brown told Football Insider.

The battle for Joao Gomes is set to be one of the most intriguing transfer sagas of the January window. With both Manchester United and Liverpool eager to sign the Brazilian, it remains to be seen which club will ultimately succeed in securing his signature.
