Manchester City are set to bolster their midfield this January transfer window with the signing of Crystal Palace's promising young talent, Adam Wharton. The Premier League champions have identified the 20-year-old English midfielder as the ideal replacement for the injured Rodri.

Rodri's prolonged absence since the start of the season has significantly impacted City's performance, leading to a string of consecutive defeats. Pep Guardiola has made it clear that strengthening the midfield is a top priority, and Wharton has emerged as the prime target.

Wharton, who joined Crystal Palace in early 2024, has quickly established himself as a key player for the Eagles. His impressive performances have earned him a call-up to the England national team, solidifying his reputation as one of the most promising young talents in the Premier League. His ability to adapt quickly to the demands of top-flight football has attracted interest from several clubs, but it is City who appear to be the most determined to secure his signature.

Wharton is seen as the ideal candidate to fill the void left by Rodri. His technical ability, energy, and versatility make him a perfect fit for Guardiola's possession-based style of play. The young midfielder's contract with the Eagles runs until 2029, giving Crystal Palace a strong negotiating position. However, City's financial muscle and the urgency to strengthen their midfield could make a deal difficult to resist.

While Crystal Palace are reluctant to lose one of their most promising assets mid-season, Manchester City are confident they can reach an agreement. If the move materializes, Wharton will have the opportunity to work under Guardiola, one of the most successful managers in world football. Such a move would undoubtedly accelerate his development and establish him as a key figure in City's future plans.

The Premier League champions face a challenging task in convincing Crystal Palace to part ways with their star midfielder. However, with the transfer window now open, the coming weeks will provide clarity on whether City can successfully secure Wharton's signature and bolster their squad for the remainder of the season.
