The international representative for Patrick Dorgu, Brian Riemer, remains optimistic that the dynamic fullback can feature for Denmark during the crucial March international break. The Manchester United left-back has been sidelined since late January, but his recovery process is reportedly ahead of schedule—providing a massive psychological boost for manager Michael Carrick.

The Race for the World Cup Playoffs

Dorgu has been out of action since United’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Arsenal at the end of January. After suffering a significant hamstring injury, initial medical assessments suggested he would be unavailable until at least mid-April.

However, the stakes for his national team are immense. Denmark is set to face North Macedonia on March 26 in a high-stakes World Cup playoff. Should they advance, they will play either the Republic of Ireland or Czechia on March 31 for a spot in the tournament. Brian Riemer is refusing to rule the United star out.

"At this moment, Manchester United has communicated that he is injured until April," Riemer stated. "But I know Patrick has a dream to be ready. His biggest motivation right now, while he’s running in that training room, is that he wants to fight against the odds. I will help him keep that dream alive as long as the opportunity exists."

Michael Carrick’s Pragmatic View

While the Danish camp is hopeful, Michael Carrick has maintained a more cautious tone. Speaking shortly after the injury occurred, the United boss admitted the loss of Dorgu was a bitter blow during a period where the youngster was in the "form of his life."

"Pat, unfortunately, is going to be out for a while," Carrick said during the initial diagnosis. "It’s disappointing because Pat has had a fantastic few weeks. We weren't sure if it was a minor cramp or something serious, and unfortunately, it looks like the latter. It’s a shame for everyone, but it’s part of football. We have to overcome this and get him back as soon as possible."

Inspired by a Legend: The Patrice Evra Connection

Dorgu’s impact at Old Trafford has been so significant that it caught the eye of club legend Patrice Evra. After Dorgu scored a "screamer" against the Gunners, Evra took to X (formerly Twitter) to praise the young Dane, jokingly asking, "What are you doing to me, bro?"

Dorgu’s response delighted the United faithful: "I learned from the best. I’ve seen your goal against Bayern."

Carrick highlighted that Dorgu’s contribution goes far beyond just scoring goals. "He has been immense. Offensively, he’s a threat with his athleticism and connections, but defensively, he’s been vital alongside Luke Shaw, doubling up coverage against teams that cause problems on the wings. It’s great to see him happy and smiling; he put so much effort into those games that he literally ran himself into the ground."

What’s Next?

Manchester United’s medical staff will continue to monitor Dorgu’s hamstring daily. While the "April" return date remains the official club stance, the player’s desire to represent Denmark in the playoffs might lead to an accelerated comeback.
