Kevin De Bruyne has finally broken his silence after it was confirmed that he will not be continuing at Manchester City beyond this season. The Belgian star, who has been a key figure in the club’s most successful era, opened up about the moment he found out he wouldn’t be staying – and he didn’t hold back.

“It was a bit of a shock because I didn’t receive any offer from Manchester City all year,” said De Bruyne, in what many are calling a clear message to the club’s board.

At 33 years of age, De Bruyne still feels he has a lot to offer at the highest level. His performances, when fit, have continued to demonstrate his quality, vision and leadership. However, despite his desire to continue, the decision had already been made internally at City.

“Of course I was a bit surprised, but I have to accept it,” he added. “I still believe I can perform at this level, but I understand that clubs need to make decisions.”

The announcement marks the end of a golden chapter for both De Bruyne and Manchester City. Since joining the club in 2015, the midfielder has been instrumental in the team's domestic and European dominance under Pep Guardiola, winning multiple Premier League titles, domestic cups, and finally the long-awaited UEFA Champions League.

The reasons behind City’s decision to part ways remain unclear, but speculation suggests the club may be planning a new cycle, focusing on younger talent. Regardless of the motives, fans and pundits alike are questioning how such a pivotal figure could be let go without even receiving a renewal offer.

What’s next for De Bruyne remains to be seen. Clubs in Europe and beyond are expected to be lining up for his signature. Whether he stays in top-level European football or seeks a new challenge elsewhere, one thing is clear: De Bruyne’s chapter at City may be over, but his career is far from finished.

A City legend says goodbye – but not quietly

The Belgian leaves with trophies, memories and a parting statement that will echo through the Etihad for a long time to come.
