Former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has expressed a keen desire to remain at the club beyond his interim managerial role, but his future hinges on discussions with incoming manager Rubén Amorim.
The Dutch legend, who took the reins at Old Trafford on a temporary basis in October, has made it clear that he is eager to continue contributing to the club. However, he has acknowledged that his future will ultimately be determined by Amorim, who is set to officially take charge on November 11th.
"Before coming to United, I wanted to manage, there's no doubt about that. When United offered me this opportunity, it was fantastic for me. I wanted to be here and I put that (the ambitions to manage) aside. For me, it was a deliberate decision to come here and help. I just want to stay and do the same, and that's my goal for now. I haven't spoken to Amorim yet..." Van Nistelrooy told AS.
Van Nistelrooy's appointment as interim manager came as a surprise to many, but he has quickly endeared himself to the club's fans and players alike. His experience and knowledge of the club have proved invaluable during a difficult period, and many believe he would be an asset to the coaching staff in a more permanent role.
However, the arrival of Amorim, who has enjoyed significant success with Sporting Lisbon, is expected to bring about significant changes at Old Trafford. The Portuguese coach is likely to want to bring in his own staff, and it remains to be seen whether there will be a place for Van Nistelrooy in his plans.
