Mingueza, 25, has emerged as one of the standout performers in La Liga this season for Celta Vigo. Under the tutelage of Claudio Giráldez, the Catalan defender has become a cornerstone of the team's defense and his impressive displays have earned him call-ups to the Spanish national team under Luis de la Fuente.

His consistent performances have not gone unnoticed across Europe, with several clubs expressing interest in his signature. However, it is Aston Villa, under the guidance of their experienced Spanish manager, Emery, who are leading the race for the former Barcelona defender.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa's board are also keen on bringing Mingueza to the Premier League, although formal negotiations with Celta Vigo have yet to commence.

Barcelona to Benefit from Potential Sale

Mingueza joined Celta Vigo in 2022 on a free transfer from Barcelona, but the Catalan giants retained a 50% sell-on clause. Should the transfer materialize, Barcelona would be entitled to a significant portion of the transfer fee.

The Spanish defender has a contract with Celta Vigo until 2026, with a release clause set at €20 million. While this represents a substantial fee, Aston Villa are prepared to meet the demands of the Galician club to secure the services of the talented defender.

A Reunion with Emery

A move to Aston Villa would reunite Mingueza with Unai Emery, a manager he has previously worked with during his time at Barcelona B. Emery is known for his ability to develop young talent, and he believes that Mingueza has the potential to become a key player for his team.

A Boost for Aston Villa's Defense

Mingueza's versatility and defensive solidity would be a valuable asset to Aston Villa. The Spanish defender can play as a center-back or a right-back, offering Emery tactical flexibility. His ability to build from the back and his composure on the ball would also be a welcome addition to the Villains' backline.

As the January transfer window approaches, it remains to be seen whether Aston Villa will be successful in their pursuit of Mingueza. However, the interest from both the club and the player suggests that a deal could be on the cards.
