During the 2018 and 2019 MLS seasons, the two Los Angeles teams had stellar duels between Carlos Vela, a member of FC, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, of the Galaxy. Both are the historic scorers of El Traffic, the great California Classic, where the Aztec has scored 10 goals against the Scandinavian's nine; and in the six games that faced each other, the European won two games, drew another three and the North American was left with a victory, in the Western Conference semifinals of the previous year.

With all these antecedents, Vela assured in conversation with the ESPN network that he misses Ibrahimovic's presence in the MLS, since "in the end, playing against high-level players makes you demand more of yourself, that you always seek to be better than someone else".

However, in terms of individual recognitions in the US league, the Mexican won the Player of the Month award three times in 2019, obtained the Golden Boot (for scoring leader) and MVP of that season; While the Swede only won the Reinforcement of the Year award in 2018, plus the ESPY for the Best Player in the competition in 2019, something that the one trained in Chivas is in charge of emphasizing.

"I had to be with him (Zlatan) fighting and I had to beat him. I think I took the prizes that were in the fight and it did me good. This year we have to look for new goals and new rivals", said Vela.
