The rivalry between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi has cooled with the passage of time, they do not play in the same league or for eternal rivals as they did when they played in Spain, each one is playing in leagues far from the European spotlight and age is already an important factor. However, the recent awarding of individual prizes to the Argentine seems to weigh heavily on the Portuguese, who recently criticized The Best awards in an interview.

Shortly after winning an eighth Ballon d'Or, FIFA named 'La Pulga' as the best player of 2023, despite only finding the back of the net 28 times for the national team, PSG and Inter Miami. Many had tipped Manchester City's Danish striker Erling Haaland as the favorite, and the decision left quite a few fans unhappy. Among them was the stellar Luiso, who scored 54 goals in 2023.
"I'm used to it and I know how these organizations work. To be honest, I didn't watch The Best awards ceremony," said the historic European striker. "I think that, in a way, these awards are losing credibility. You have to analyze the whole season. I don't want to say that Messi didn't deserve it or Haaland or even Mbappé. I just don't believe in these awards anymore. And it's not because he won at Globe Soccer. But they are facts, they are numbers. And numbers don't deceive."
