During Xavi's press conference, he was asked if he had spoken to the players about his decision to leave the club at the end of the season. Xavi said he didn't, as he first spoke to the FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta about it. Xavi believes the players are not at fault in this season's current Barca crisis.

Although Xavi said he spoke to the Laporta and made his decision, the president did not want the Spanish manager to leave. Laporta believes the former Barca player could still manage the team to success. Xavi did not back down from his decision but will be focused on winning trophies for the rest of the season. The only trophies left to win for Barca are the Champions League and La Liga. Barcelona will play Napoli in the round of 16 next month and are 11 points below Girona, who are the La Liga leaders.

Xavi was defended by players like Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong after the Barca 5-3 loss to Villarreal at home. De Jong said that the team has full trust in Xavi and that the players are at fault for the goals they conceded. Araujo said something similar and said Xavi can't do anything for mistakes on the pitch.

According to Sport, Xavi said to the players, "I'm sorry you found this out, but it was something I had for a long time, and I couldn't wait with the decision. We are family, and I still believe we can surprise everyone even though they think we are dead.”
