FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta is very angry with Xavi Hernandez, and now the Spanish manager could potentially not be guaranteed as the coach of Barca next season. Catalunya Radio reports that Laporta didn’t travel to Almería with the team today as he and Xavi are tense because of Xavi’s words yesterday during his press conference. While Xavi’s continuity is no longer guaranteed, Jose Mourinho becomes a name likely to take over the club since he has no club at the moment and wants to coach next season. If Barca lets go of Xavi, the Catalan club will look for a free-agent manager, like Mourinho, to avoid paying a fee to another club.

Xavi spoke at a press conference yesterday ahead of FC Barcelona’s La Liga match against Almeria and spoke about the club’s financial situation and the challenge of competing with other clubs like Real Madrid. Xavi said, “The Barcelona fan must understand that the situation is very difficult, especially economically. We are not here to compete with Real Madrid or with the best in Europe. The summer transfer window? We will decide with the fair play, but it’s not the time to respond. Laporta and Deco are positive, but the economic issue will mark our sports planning.”

In Jose Mourinho’s case, the Portuguese coach continues to wait until the end of the season to decide where he wants to coach next. No team seems to be a front-runner to appoint the ‘Special One’ this summer, but Mourinho may become a realistic option if Barcelona does sack Xavi. Reports in Spain suggested that Deco wanted to start talks with the Portuguese coach, but he rejected the offer. Mourinho is also linked to a move to Saudi Arabia and in Turkey with Fenerbache.

Mikel Arteta as a potential future option?

Mikel Arteta is regarded as one of the best managers in the world for his work at Arsenal. Yesterday, Arteta received a prestigious Spanish honor by being bestowed with The Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic. The award is a Spanish civil order of chivalry and honor and is granted by the King of Spain.

While he made his return to Spain, he spoke about potentially returning to his home country as a coach, which leaves Barcelona fans hopeful that he will return to the Catalan club. Arteta said, “One day I will return to Spain. My country attracts me a lot. Our way of living and culture I always keep in my mind. I always thought I would come back one day.”
