Xabi Alonso spoke recently in a press conference and was asked about the Liverpool and Bayern Munich rumors. Alonso did not want to answer any of the questions and insisted he focused on Bayer Leverkusen and completing a historic season with the German club. Leverkusen are first in the Bundesliga table with 61 points and in Europa League Round of 16 against Qarabag FK. Leverkusen is in the German Cup as well and will play Dusseldorf.

Alonso replied to the rumors and said, "Bayern, Liverpool? I have nothing new to say. Right now, I'm Bayer Leverkusen coach, and that's certain. Regarding the future, I have nothing new to say. Call received from Bayern? That’s only hypotetical, again — I have nothing new to say.”

Xabi Alonso could stay at Bayer Leverkusen and wait for the Real Madrid job

Sources from Germany suggest that Xabi Alonso wants to stay at Bayer Leverkusen and wait to coach at Real Madrid instead of coaching Liverpool or Bayern Munich. Sports 1. reports that Alonso is considering remaining at Leverkusen for another season, with him and his family settled at the club. The Spaniard also feels the Liverpool job may be the “right job, wrong time,” with Klopp deemed a nearly impossible act to follow. Alonso wants to keep the Real Madrid door open no matter what, which is why a release clause will be a very important part of any potential talks with Liverpool or Bayern Munich. Real Madrid has Xabi Alonso in mind as Ancelotti's successor.
