Mbappe has rejected a move to Real Madrid in the past and has stayed at PSG by signing short-term contracts. PSG might be unable to convince the player to stay again after reports suggest he finally decided to leave the French club on a free transfer to join Los Blancos. His contract with PSG expires this summer, and the French club has not received a response on whether to renew it again.

ESPN reporter Julien Laurens reported and confirmed Le Parisien's earlier story that Mbappe had made his choice to go to Real Madrid instead of staying at PSG and could make the announcement of leaving PSG as soon as next week.

Real Madrid has struggled to bring the player in because of his transfer fee and the wages. The transfer fee issue seems resolved since Mbappe can leave the club for free, but the wages are still a concern. Madrid reportedly have given Mbappe an ultimatum. Mbappe reportedly makes around $77.8 million a year in his current contract with PSG. The contract had an option to extend till 2025, but the player seems to stick with leaving this summer. Real Madrid can find a new solution to the wage issue.

Although Mbappé wants to join Real Madrid, the French star will have to take a big pay cut to join the Spanish giants next season. His new salary will be half of what he earns at PSG, which could be around $39 million a year. This would still make him the highest earner in Real Madrid since Kroos earns the most with 24 million euros.
