Abdel Sanad Yamama, head of Egypt's Al Wafd party, has proposed that Mohamed Salah, star of Liverpool in the Premier League, as well as all other Egyptians abroad, transfer 20 percent of their monthly dollar income to Egypt to address the country's severe economic crisis. Al Wafd, the third force in the Egyptian parliament, said in a statement that it is considering submitting a bill to the legislature to "oblige" workers abroad to transfer 20 percent of their salary to their families in Egypt, who will receive a corresponding share in Egyptian pounds.

Yamama, who ran in Egypt's presidential elections last December and won 1.9% of the vote, said: No one will be excluded from this decision and it will apply to the low-income worker abroad and even the star of the Egyptian national team, Mohamed Salah. The politician claimed that the families of Egyptian expatriates "reside in Egypt and benefit from all government services" at a time of severe economic crisis marked by a pressing lack of foreign currency and a foreign debt amounting to more than $160 billion.

Egyptians abroad have the right to defend their homeland in these circumstances. Egypt's foreign exchange reserves stand at around $34 billion, the vast majority of which are deposits of Saudi and UAE sovereign wealth funds, while the country is due to pay some $30 billion this year on its accumulated debt maturities.

The differences with CR7

While Salah could contribute to the economic salvation of his country, it is well known that Cristiano Ronaldo has a fixation for cars and annually invests several millions to obtain the best models in the world.
