Wayne Rooney, former footballer and current Plymouth manager, made a surprise appearance on the spin-off show I'm A Celebrity Unpacked on Saturday, revealing his admiration for his wife Coleen’s performance on the popular reality series.
During the show, Wayne shared his thoughts on watching Coleen in the jungle, admitting that it felt "strange" to see her in such an environment. He also revealed that this is the longest he has been without speaking to her since they were children. However, he expressed immense pride in her and praised the way she is showcasing her "nice," "warm," and "caring" personality to the public.
“I’m really proud of her. She's showing what a nice person she is, a very warm person, and that’s coming across strong,” Wayne said, highlighting Coleen's ability to bridge the gap between the older and younger contestants.
When asked if he would ever consider joining the I'm A Celebrity cast, Wayne admitted that he would be interested in taking part in the future—if his schedule allowed it. He told host Joel Dommett, "Maybe if I'm not working. I'd like to do one. At the minute obviously that's not possible."
Wayne also revealed that he and Coleen are both big fans of the show, noting that they had discussed the idea of him appearing one day. He said, “We watch all the shows, but I think the celebrity one is the best one and the one we said if we were going to do one we would do."
In addition to his public admiration for Coleen, Wayne shared a more personal side by revealing that he would have a special poem ready for her upon her exit from the jungle. Wayne admitted that he has always enjoyed writing poems as a way to express his feelings, saying: “There will be one waiting for her."
Wayne also spoke about how much the family misses Coleen during her time in the jungle, especially the children who cannot communicate with her. He shared that while he is in Plymouth for work, Coleen’s parents have been helping out immensely with the kids.
“It’s the longest I’ve been without speaking to her since we were children,” Wayne reflected. “It’s difficult for the children not being able to speak to their mum, but Coleen’s parents are helping out massively.”
Wayne expressed his support for Coleen’s time on I'm A Celebrity, saying, “It’s strange seeing her out there in the jungle, but I think she’s doing a great job. She’s showing everyone her personality, her character.” He added that Coleen is likely playing a crucial role in bridging generational gaps between contestants, demonstrating her caring nature throughout the experience.
Wayne ended by sharing his excitement at the prospect of Coleen taking part in one of the infamous trials. He said, "I’d love to see her do a trial. It’s part of the experience...to test yourself. I think she'd be really good at the trials."
Wayne’s heartfelt comments not only highlight his admiration for his wife but also showcase a side of the football legend that fans don’t often see—his deep affection and pride for Coleen.
