Real Madrid cruise past Getafe to ease Champions League pain
In a match marked by the need to bounce back from their heavy Champions League defeat, Real Madrid have made a strong start to their La Liga clash against Getafe at the Santiago Bernabéu. Goals from Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé have given the Whites a comfortable 2-0 lead at half-time.
Still smarting from their European exit, Real Madrid came out with the intention of proving their dominance and closing the gap on Barcelona at the top of the La Liga table. And they have certainly achieved that, at least in the first 45 minutes.
Bellingham and Mbappé prove a lethal duo
The partnership between Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé is proving to be one of the most lethal in world football. The Englishman, with his clinical finishing, opened the scoring with a powerful strike that gave the Getafe goalkeeper no chance. Meanwhile, Mbappé, with his blistering pace and skill, doubled the lead with a solo effort that left the Bernabéu crowd stunned.
A dominant first-half performance
Real Madrid have been superior in every aspect of the game. Possession, chances created, and intensity have all been firmly in the Whites' favour. Carlo Ancelotti's side have been clinical in attack and solid at the back, leaving Getafe with few opportunities.
Getafe struggle to make an impact
Getafe, for their part, have tried to match Real Madrid but have been outclassed in every department. The Azulones have struggled to create any clear-cut chances and have been punished on the counter-attack.
What lies ahead in the second half?
With a two-goal lead, Real Madrid will be confident of seeing out the game. However, Getafe will not give up without a fight and will be looking to pull one back. It will be interesting to see how both teams approach the second half.
