The match, which took place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, saw the English side claim three points in their opening Group D fixture.

Chelsea entered the tournament as one of the highly anticipated contenders, having qualified through their triumph in the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League. Their first opponent, Los Angeles FC, represented Major League Soccer (MLS) in the global club competition.
