Liverpool fans got the chance to say goodbye to Jurgen Klopp this past weekend at Anfield after the team defeated Wolves 2-0 on the final matchday of the Premier League season. Emotions were high at Anfield as it was a goodbye to one of the most impactful managers in Liverpool’s history. Virgil Van Dijk felt very upset about saying goodbye to Klopp, and after the game, he hinted that his future could be elsewhere. Van Dijk was asked about his future and said, ”My future is not important at the moment. The only thing I can say now is if I have a farewell I don’t think I would keep it dry [try not to cry] because that was something I was very surprised with with him [Jurgen Klopp].” A club that may be interested in signing him is Real Madrid, and they could offer him a good deal since his contract with Liverpool expires next year.

Real Madrid is set to lose their captain, Nacho Fernandez, this summer as his contract will expire this summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, the center-back is expected to leave the club as a free agent, and his potential destination will be the MLS. Van Dijk could be the ideal replacement for Nacho since Carlo Ancelotti needs a crucial center-back to play next to Rudiger.

Real Madrid have been unlucky with injuries of David Alaba and Eder Militao. Carlo Ancelotti has had to adapt to the injuries, place Nacho next to Rudiger, or even have Aurelien Tchouameni play next to him, even though his natural position is the defensive midfielder role. Real Madrid is also interested in Leny Yoro from Lille, but it seems difficult to make it happen this summer.

Van Dijk also has hints about staying at Liverpool next season?

Although Van Dijk ignored the question about his future, the Dutch defender spoke as if he were to stay next season and try to improve from what they have achieved this season under Klopp. Van Dijk said, “Hopefully we can be up there again and be consistent. That’s the main thing. We have to be together as a group and stay consistent. Even in not as good times you still have to stick together and that is something we need, especially going into next season.”
