Thierry Henry has been without a job since stepping down from his position as coach of the French U-21 national team last summer. After leading the team to the final of the Paris Olympic Games in August, Henry resigned for personal reasons. Now, the ex-football star has made his future intentions clear: he wants to continue coaching, but with a focus on either a national team or a club.

Despite his successful tenure with the French U-21s, Henry has not seen the same level of achievement at the club level, where his coaching stints with AS Monaco and the Montreal Impact in MLS were less fruitful. In a recent interview in England, Henry was asked about his coaching future, and he was direct in his response: he wants to take on a club.

Henry Open to New Opportunities but Seeks Balance with Family Life

Speaking to Sky Sports, Henry expressed his openness to new challenges in club football, noting, “I have no problem testing myself at the club level. It would need to be something fair, and I would have to assess the situation to see what it is.” Despite his desire to continue his coaching career, Henry highlighted the difficulties coaches face, particularly when it comes to balancing their professional commitments with family life.

Reflecting on his own experiences, Henry explained, "We need to understand something: you know how hard it is for a coach, people don’t take that into account. It’s hard for your family, moving your kids to a new place, and then getting fired. Then you go home, and people don’t care about what happens to you and your family because it’s rare for people to care about the coach."

Henry Keeps All Options Open, But Family Considerations Are Key

Although he has faced challenges in his coaching career, Henry remains open to all possibilities. “I’m open to anything, but it has to be something that makes sense for me and my family, and that is very important,” he emphasized.

The former Arsenal striker’s willingness to continue coaching at a high level, while ensuring that his family’s needs are taken into account, highlights the balance that many coaches struggle to find. Whether he returns to a national team or takes on a club job, it seems Henry is looking for an opportunity that aligns with both his professional goals and personal life.

  • Current Status: Without a coaching role since August 2023.
  • Previous Coaching Roles: Led France's U-21 team to the Olympic final; coached AS Monaco and Montreal Impact with limited success.
  • Future Plans: Open to coaching a club or national team, but seeks a situation that makes sense for him and his family.
  • Family Considerations: Henry emphasizes the personal challenges of coaching, particularly the impact on family life.
  • Availability: Henry remains open to all opportunities, but they must align with his personal and professional needs.
