Alajuelense, the Costa Rican powerhouse, has called on FIFA to ensure transparency and prohibit multi-ownership in the 2025 Club World Cup, while also requesting a place in the tournament as the two-time Central American champion.
In a recent statement, Alajuelense urged FIFA to "guarantee transparency and the correct application of its regulations, protecting the integrity of sporting competitions." The club emphasized that no team involved in multi-ownership, a practice prohibited by FIFA in this tournament, should be allowed to participate. "This is essential to uphold the fundamental principles of fair competition that govern world football," the statement read.
These concerns have been raised amid reports that Mexican clubs León and Pachuca, both qualified for the Club World Cup as CONCACAF champions, are part of the same ownership group. Alajuelense is now requesting one of these two spots in the tournament.
