Jamal Musiala's contract with Bayern Munich is entering a critical phase, and everyone involved is aware of it. But it's not the competition that seems to be putting obstacles in the way of a much-desired renewal; it's Bayern Munich itself.

The all-powerful Bayern Munich has a grand vision. It's not just about winning the next Champions League at home or even, as things were last season, conquering any title available. The Bavarian board's ultimate dream is to find Thomas Müller's successor as the club's new inspiration following the veteran German playmaker's impending retirement at the end of this season.

The Munich board's ecstasy already has an archangel, with a name and surname: Jamal Musiala. "His story with Bayern still has a long way to go," said Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl, with great enthusiasm. However, there are high mountains and dark clouds on the horizon between such exaltation and reality.

The Problem of Millions

Jamal Musiala is currently under contract with Bayern Munich until June 30, 2026. The player's annual salary is currently estimated at €5 million according to the specialized site Capology. Compared to the €25 million that Harry Kane earns, or even the €20 million that Leroy Sané earns, Jamal Musiala's salary no longer corresponds to the hierarchy of the offensive player born in Fulda.

Jamal Musiala even earns less than the recently signed Michael Olise. Musiala, whom Bayern Munich saw as a candidate for the Ballon d'Or, is the 42nd highest-paid player in the Bundesliga. The current situation of his contract is already unsustainable and forces an urgent renegotiation, despite what Bayern president Herbert Hainer thinks.

Jamal Musiala's Conditions

The first condition for Bayern Munich to achieve its dream of renewing with its young star would be for the German club's coffers to be not only full but overflowing. Bayern Munich, as is well known, is a financially healthy club. But in the world of football, there is a big difference between accounting health and prosperity.

How much would Bayern Munich need to get Jamal Musiala to agree to renew? It's impossible to know with absolute precision, as this would require taking into account the bidding war between clubs like Real Madrid, FC Barcelona or Arsenal - presumed interested parties - against Bayern Munich itself. What seems difficult to imagine is a signing for an amount less than €100 million.

If one wanted to match Musiala's salary with that of Sané (the most conservative scenario), Bayern would have to pay precisely those €100 million, spread over an imaginary five-year contract. And here lies the next threat to the Bavarian dreams.
