Lionel Messi and Inter Miami have been eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions Cup by Monterrey CF last night after losing 3-1 at the Estadio BBVA. Inter Miami lost 5-2 on aggregate, and it seems that they lost their chance to qualify for the Club World Cup next year in the United States. There is a new route for Inter Miami to participate and compete in the Club World Cup next year.

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will feature 32 teams from six different confederations. Qualification for this tournament brings clubs a minimum of $53 million, and result-based bonuses can earn up to $100 million. The winner will receive around $107 million. There is a total prize money of $2.6 billion, and the initial $2 billion will be distributed among the 32 teams, according to One Football.

Inter Miami was hoping to qualify itself for one of the four spots available for the CONCACAF confederation. The four slots go for the winners of the CONCACAF Champions League/Cup over the past four years. Monterrey is qualified since they won in 2021, along with Seattle Sounders FC, who won in 2022, and Club Leon, who won last year, and the fourth spot would go to this year's winner. The winner will be between Club America, Club Pachuca, Monterrey, and Columbus Crew.

The Asian Confederation (AFC) and the African Confederation (CAF) will have four slots each. AFC has the previous AFC Champions League winners, Al Hilal and Urawa Red Diamonds. CAF has the previous CAF Champions League winners Ah Ahly and Wydad Casablanca. Al Hilal won their 4th AFC Champions League that season and became the most successful team in the competition's history in 2021. Wydad Casablanca won the 2022 CAF Champions League by beating the 11-time winner Al Alhy.

South America's Confederation (CONMEBOL) will have six slots, and the Oceania Confederation (OFC) will have one slot. For Oceania, the only club that qualified was Auckland City. CONMEBOL as the previous Copa Libertadores winners Palmeiras, Flamengo, and Fluminense.

The European Confederation (UEFA) will have 12 slots open, the most of any other confederation. Manchester City's Champions League win last year meant so much more, knowing it gave them a ticket to the Club World Cup in 2025. The other clubs that qualified are the past two Champions League winners, Real Madrid and Chelsea. Other qualified clubs are Bayern Munich, PSG, Inter Milan, FC Porto, Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, and Juventus due to UEFA's four-year ranking.

Inter Miami could have the 5th CONCACAF Spot in the Club World Cup

Inter Miami cannot qualify for that route now, but there is a 5th slot for an American team. The reason for this is that the United States will host the tournament next year, and there are yet no official details as to who that team could be. The U.S. may invite Inter Miami to play the tournament as the host team since the team's popularity has increased massively thanks to Lionel Messi.
