Neymar Jr. is once again making headlines, not just for his performances but for his potential return to FC Barcelona. After leaving European football for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, his career took an unexpected turn. A serious knee injury sidelined him for months, and in search of rhythm, he has been training with Santos, the club where he first rose to prominence.

Despite the comfort of being back in his homeland, Neymar seems determined to make a final attempt at regaining his place among Europe’s elite. His time in Brazil could be a short stop before aiming for a return to one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Neymar’s love for Barcelona remains intact

Since his controversial departure in 2017, Neymar has never hidden his desire to wear the Blaugrana colours again. Over the years, he has maintained a close relationship with some of his former teammates, including Lionel Messi, whom he attempted to reunite with on several occasions. Even when playing for PSG, he expressed his fond memories of Barcelona and his desire to return.

Now, with the opportunity to move as a free agent, his agent, Pini Zahavi, is actively working to convince Barcelona to make a move. While the club’s board does not currently prioritise his signing, the possibility of a low-cost deal and Neymar’s willingness to lower his salary could change the scenario.

Will Barcelona take the gamble?

Barcelona’s financial situation remains delicate, making high-profile signings difficult. However, if Neymar is truly open to reducing his salary, the Catalan giants might reconsider their stance. His experience, talent, and chemistry with some of the squad’s leaders could add value to the team.

Much will depend on whether Barcelona’s management sees him as a necessary addition or a risk, given his recent injury history. But one thing is clear: Neymar is willing to make sacrifices to fulfil his dream of returning to the Camp Nou.
