Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has reportedly made significant progress in their pursuit of Ukrainian defender Ilya Zabarnyi, reaching a personal agreement for a five-year contract. This development was reported today by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, indicating a clear intent from the French champions to secure the services of the AFC Bournemouth center-back.

According to Romano's update, the personal terms between PSG and Zabarnyi have been successfully negotiated, with the player agreeing to a long-term deal that would keep him at the Parc des Princes for five seasons. This crucial step suggests that Zabarnyi himself is keen on making the move to the Ligue 1 powerhouse.

Despite the agreement on personal terms, the transfer is not yet finalized. Romano stated that "negotiations continue with Bournemouth on the transfer fee, even if there's no agreement closed yet." This highlights that while the player's side of the deal appears settled, the most critical part – convincing Bournemouth to release their key defender – is still in progress.

Ilya Zabarnyi, 22, joined AFC Bournemouth from Dynamo Kyiv in January 2023 and has since established himself as a central figure in the Cherries' defense. Known for his aerial prowess, strong tackling, and composure on the ball, the young Ukrainian international has impressed in the Premier League. His consistent performances have not only solidified his place in Bournemouth's starting eleven but have also attracted attention from top clubs across Europe.

PSG's reported interest in Zabarnyi comes as the club looks to reinforce its defensive options. The Parisian side frequently competes on multiple fronts, including domestic titles and the UEFA Champions League, necessitating a deep and high-quality squad. Bringing in a young, talented defender like Zabarnyi would align with a strategy of securing long-term assets while providing immediate competition and depth at the back.

The coming days and weeks will be crucial as both clubs work towards finding common ground on the transfer fee. Bournemouth will likely aim to secure a substantial amount for one of their valuable assets, especially given his age, potential, and the long contract he still has with them. PSG, meanwhile, will be keen to reach a reasonable agreement to complete the transfer and add Zabarnyi to their ranks before the new season commences.

Should the negotiations conclude successfully, Ilya Zabarnyi would mark another significant signing for PSG, further strengthening their squad as they prepare for their upcoming campaigns.
