FC Barcelona is still regarded as one of the world's biggest clubs because of its major success over the past 20 years. The club is still an attractive place for footballers, but in recent years, the status has been lowered due to the financial problems they are going through. The club is not able to purchase world-class players for big transfer fees because of the large debt the club still reportedly has to pay off. Barcelona was smart to bring in great players on free transfers like Ilkay Gundogan and Robert Lewandowski in the last two summer transfer windows. Gunodgan spoke about the status of the club and how it shouldn't be compared to the old Barcelona that won trebles and La Liga consistently.

Gundogan spoke about how he's always wanted to play for FC Barcelona and feels honored to wear the shirt. Gundogan said, "I always wanted to wear the Barcelona shirt one day. I received offers from teams other than Barcelona, but I always dreamed of playing here. I was impressed with the football by Xavi, Iniesta, and Busquets."

Gundogan spoke about how the team is doing this season and what he brings to the squad. The German midfielder said, "We've been unlucky with injuries. Maybe without them I would have rested more, which is useful for me. We still haven't reached a point where we control matches how we want to. That's why we saw good periods against Napoli, but also bad periods, like if we played a basketball match. I'm here to create a balance of experience and potential with the great talents coming out of La Masia."

Gundogan doesn't want this team to be compared to the old FC Barcelona team

Gundogan doesn't want to put pressure on themselves and says that the club is currently in a transitional period. The midfielder said, "Today's Barcelona can't be compared to the old Barcelona. We're in a transitional period. Last summer, the team lost Busquets and Alba, and the club is losing its identity."
