Luis Suarez is one of the best strikers of this century. He played in some of the most important clubs in the world, such as Ajax, Liverpool, Barcelona and Atlético Madrid, and in all of them he earned the respect and admiration of the fans thanks to his goals and hard work. In addition, he is a star of the Uruguayan National Team, with which he participated in four World Cups (South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022).

Undoubtedly his best performances were with Los Blaugranas. Between 2014 and 2020 he scored 198 goals and provided 113 assists in 283 games, won 13 titles and formed an unforgettable attacking duo with Lionel Messi, one of his best friends and now his teammate again at Inter Miami. However, Suarez's story could have been very different had it not been for an absurd situation that happened during the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
In an interview with La Mesa, the Uruguayan striker revealed that he was very close to playing for Real Madrid instead of Barcelona: "Before the 2014 World Cup, Real Madrid wanted to sign me and everything was on track. They were thinking of selling Benzema to Arsenal, it was all done," he began explaining. He then added: "When the World Cup started Barça got into the race, and obviously I preferred Barça. With the bite situation, Madrid's interest dropped, and Barça became more interested.... In the end I had both options and I chose Barça because it was my dream."
The "biting situation" Suarez mentioned was an unfortunate event that marked his career. In a match against Italy, in the group stage of Brazil 2014, he had an argument with Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini and, to everyone's surprise, attacked him with a bite on the shoulder. For that reason he was sent off and received a harsh suspension of four months and 9 international matches.

Already away from European soccer, Luis Suarez arrived this year at Inter Miami to join Lionel Messi and other former Barcelona players, such as Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets. The Uruguayan striker will have his first experience in Major League Soccer and the CONCACAF Champions League, which will be the Herons' main objectives this season.
