
Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have been pushing for the Super League since 2020 to receive bigger funds. Both Spanish clubs have been struggling financially, especially FC Barcelona. Both Spanish giants believe the Super League could prevent Premier League teams from continuing to outspend teams outside of England. While Real Madrid is slowly earning more deals for the club, FC Barcelona continues to lower a big problem they had from the old administration.

Former FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu spent lots of money on expensive transfers like Antoine Greizmann and Ousmane Dembele after Neymar Jr. left the club. Because of these transfers, Bartomeu offered high wages for these players, which caused the club to be in debt. With the current FC Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, the wages have gone down, but the wage bill still ranks high in the top 10 wage bills of 2023.
90 min Football revealed the top 20 biggest wage bills of 2023. in the top 10, five Premier League teams, 1 Serie A team, 1 Bundesliga team, and 1 French team are on it, along with Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Juventus is 10th with a 283m euro wage bill. 9th place is Tottenham with a wage bill of 289m wage bill. Manchester United is above them with a wage bill of 381m euros.
In 7th, it's Chelsea with a wage bill of 397m euros. Above them it's Bayern Munich with a wage bill of 416m euros. In 5th place is Liverpool with a wage bill of 429m euros last year.

Real Madrid's wage bill last year was 453 million euros. It could be expected to be slightly higher if Kylian Mbappé joins, but it won't make them top of the list this year. Manchester City had the third biggest wage bill at 554m euros.
PSG's wage bill was at 617m euros, mostly due to Mbappé's wages. PSG's wage bill ranking would decrease if they don't offer huge wages to their new signings. FC Barcelona was at the top of the list at 639 million euros. Frenkie De Jong earns the most in the team but Barca could sell him in the summer to avoid breaching FFP rules.
