In addition to Konaté, the Real Madrid radar points to another prominent French center-back: Dayot Upamecano. The 26-year-old defender, currently at Bayern Munich, sees his contract expire next June. Upamecano, who was closely followed by Juni Calafat in the past, represents a highly attractive option, with a market value of 50 million euros.
The Premier League is also a fertile ground for potential Real Madrid signings. Marc Guéhi from Crystal Palace is another name on the white club's agenda. With a market value of 45 million euros, Guéhi is expected to be the subject of an intense bidding war among the top English clubs.
Calafat's scouting team is also keeping an eye on other, less prominent, alternatives such as Marcos Senesi (Bournemouth), Anel Ahmedhodzic (Sheffield United), and Adam Webster (Brighton). While they may not have a big public profile, their performance hasn't gone unnoticed.
Dayot Upamecano isn't the only center-back with an expiring contract in the Bundesliga. Also in this situation are Diogo Leite and Danilho Doekhi from Union Berlin, as well as Ko Itakura from Borussia Mönchengladbach and Tuta from Eintracht Frankfurt. While these four players will be nearing footballing maturity when their contracts expire, their lack of experience at elite clubs could count against them, though their quality is undeniable.
Real Madrid's strategy of seeking talents with expiring contracts or in favorable contractual situations isn't new, and the club's history is full of examples of players who arrived and saw their careers take off, leaving an indelible legacy. Names like Cristiano Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Sergio Ramos, or more recently Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo Goes, are just a few examples of how the Santiago Bernabéu has been a springboard for footballers who have reached the top, leaving an unforgettable mark on football history. Real Madrid aims to replicate that success with its future vision in this transfer market.
