Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) delivered a commanding performance against Seattle Sounders, securing a decisive victory that propels them into the next stage of the FIFA Club World Cup. After a somewhat uneventful opening, the deadlock was broken in the 35th minute by the dazzling footwork of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who weaved his way through the Seattle defense to slot home the opening goal. The first half concluded with PSG holding a well-deserved lead.
The second half saw PSG emerge with renewed vigor and determination. They maintained a firm grip on the game, launching consistent attacks and effectively stifling any attempts from Seattle Sounders to penetrate their defense. Just as in the first half, Seattle struggled to create clear-cut chances. The pressure from PSG eventually told, as Achraf Hakimi unleashed a thunderous strike in the 66th minute, leaving the Seattle goalkeeper with no chance and the net rippling.
With Hakimi's powerful finish, PSG effectively declared their qualification for the knockout stages. Following their shock defeat to Botafogo in their opening match, the French champions were determined to bounce back and demonstrate their true capabilities – and they did so emphatically. While PSG's traditionally strong defense is always a talking point, this time it was their dynamic attack that truly made the difference, providing the goals that secured the vital three points.
This victory marks a significant turnaround for PSG, injecting renewed confidence into the squad. They have successfully re-entered the fray and now find themselves on a path that could very well lead them to a rematch against the very team that caused their initial setback: Botafogo. The prospect of a second encounter with the Brazilian side, this time in the knockout rounds, adds an extra layer of intrigue to PSG's Club World Cup journey.
