It is no secret that FC Barcelona has been going through a financial crisis for years. In fact, Lionel Messi's departure to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021 was due to the fact that the Blaugrana club could not keep him in the squad due to his high salary and so he ended up leaving for French soccer. In addition, the famous levers that the club has had to activate to continue signing players in recent years, have compromised the future of the institution.

That is why, when Barcelona is presented with the opportunity to bring in millions of euros, it does not intend to waste it. In that sense, both PSG and Bayern Munich have ensured that they will receive a large amount of money from UEFA. This is because the European soccer body awards a financial prize to each team that advances in the Champions League and these two clubs have been the first to reach the quarterfinals of this year's edition of the tournament.

Paris Saint-Germain beat Real Sociedad, while Bayern Munich did the same with Lazio. Thus, both clubs have secured 10.6 million euros from UEFA. Like them, FC Barcelona could also receive this large sum of money, which would not go amiss, but in order to do so they must advance to the quarter-final round. Barça's round of 16 tie is against Napoli and the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw.

The second leg will be played in Spain, where Barcelona will be the home team and will have the support of its fans in the quest for a ticket to the quarterfinals. In the event of winning the tie, the Catalan team will receive the same 10.6 million euros that both PSG and Bayern have already secured. However, should they continue to advance, Barcelona could receive even more money.

The Champions League prize money

UEFA awards a certain amount of money to the teams that advance in the Champions League. The further a team goes in the tournament, the more money it can receive. The prize for advancing to the round of 16 was 9.6 million and the quarterfinal prize is 10.6 million. Teams that reach the semifinals will be given 12.5 million, while runners-up will receive 15.5 million.
