Pep Guardiola acknowledges this club after his epic win against Newcastle
Pep Guardiola praises this Premier League club after the Man City 3-2 win vs Newcastle United.
Manchester City gets three sweet points at St. James' Park by completing another Premier League comeback. After trailing 2-1 at halftime to Newcastle, Kevin De Bruyne scores and assists to lead City to victory. Man City now sits in the second position of the Premier League table with a game in hand.
Man City will soon play their game in hand against Brentford early next month, and a win can put them a point away from league leaders, Liverpool. City fans were concerned the past few months by dodgy results against Chelsea, Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Crystal Palace. After winning the FIFA Club World Cup in late December, the team looks in great form again.
Pep Guardiola and Man City are back focused on winning a fourth Premier League title in a row, an accomplishment that no one has ever done. Pep spoke after the Newcastle win and feels confident in his team. Guardiola says, "That was really good, sometimes it is better winning that way for the team, for everything. Incredible team the way we played with a huge personality. They showed me they want to be there, to fight until the end, that they want to retain the title."
Guardiola mentions Liverpool FC after the Newcastle win and sees them as their competitors for the Premier League title
Pep Guardiola couldn't help but mention how important the win was for them. He acknowledges Liverpool is having a great season and wants City to get closer to the Reds in the league table. Guardiola also says he looks forward to playing Liverpool in the league soon. “It’s really important [to win against Newcastle] because Liverpool are flying over the last month, and we have to go to Anfield, so it’s better to be close to them,” said the Spanish coach.
The Premier League game between Liverpool and Manchester City at Anfield will be played on March 9th. Guardiola hopes to have key players by then to compete and get a great result against Liverpool to have a chance at another PL title.
“This is what I want, waiting on Manu [Akanji], John [Stones], and Erling [Haaland] to come back as soon as possible when the Champions League is coming and the FA Cup is here to use everyone," says Guardiola.
