Alejandro Garnacho and Manchester United defeated Manchester City 2-1 at Wembley Stadium to win the FA Cup trophy. The Argentine winger scored the opener of the game in the 30th minute of the first half. Garnacho scored from close range after a miscommunication between Stefan Ortega and Josko Gvardiol in the back. Manchester United fans are pleased with Garnacho’s season, and the young teenager broke a record that only Cristiano Ronaldo has done with Man United. Garnacho is the first teenager to score in an FA Cup final since Cristiano Ronaldo vs Millwall in 2004, ironically the year the Argentine was born. They now share the moment of winning the FA Cup with Manchester United by having this record.
Garnacho wasn’t the only Manchester United player to break this record, as Kobbie Mainoo also became another teenager who had scored in the FA Cup Final since Ronaldo. Mainoo was technically the first teenager to score in the FA Cup Final since Garnacho, who had the record for nine minutes. Garnacho scored in the 30th minute, while Mainoo’s goal arrived in the 39th minute.
The two teenagers spoke after the game, and they were relieved to have won the FA Cup after a tough season. Garnacho said, “Nobody believed in us, but we are a team and we are all together.” Mainoo spoke as well and said, “Last year I was watching this final in the stands, this is an incredible feeling.” Garnacho praised Mainoo, who won the Man of the Match award, and said, “[I] always say: for me this guy [Mainoo] is the best player in our squad. And we are also very good friends so I am very happy for him.”
Ten Hag spoke highly about Mainoo after the match and said, “He was really so enjoyable to watch. At his age. He’s an example. We wanted him to come in and he got a bad injury in pre-season.” When asked how far Mainoo could go, Ten Hag said, “I think we have to keep it calm. Here in England you’re very good to push players too high and then you hammer them with one or two bad performances.”
