Kylian Mbappé has officially become a "10" at Real Madrid. While his debut season with the Blancos might not have yielded the team silverware he'd hoped for – with just two minor titles, a UEFA Super Cup and a Club World Cup – individually, he certainly delivered. Mbappé netted an impressive 44 goals in 59 matches, living up to his billing.

Upon his arrival, he couldn't claim his preferred No. 7, which belongs to Vinicius Jr., nor the No. 10, then occupied by Luka Modrić. However, with Modrić's departure, Mbappé now inherits the iconic No. 10 jersey, the same number he typically wears for France.

A New Era for the No. 10 and Other Squad Numbers

The change is already reflected on Real Madrid's official website, and fans can now purchase his official white kit with the No. 10 on the back. This marks a significant moment as Mbappé takes on a legendary number previously worn by club greats such as Modrić, Figo, Seedorf, Özil, Laudrup, Rial, Puskás, and Velázquez.

Consequently, the No. 9 jersey is now vacant. For now, it remains without an owner. Brazilian prodigy Endrick currently wears No. 16, but he certainly aspires to claim another important squad number in the future. The situation of youth academy product Gonzalo could also play a role. He's reportedly in talks with the club to secure a spot in the first team and has offers from England. If he becomes part of Xabi Alonso's project, he could inherit Endrick's No. 16 or even directly take the No. 9 from Mbappé. Time will tell.

As things stand, apart from the No. 9, only the No. 25 is currently available. The No. 25 can only be assigned to an outfield player once all other squad slots are filled. Meanwhile, the No. 17, vacated by Lucas Vázquez, has officially been taken by Marco Asensio, who has been registered with La Liga as a full first-team player. All eyes now turn to potential new arrivals and what number Franco Mastantuono, the highly anticipated signing who will officially join when he turns eighteen on August 14th, will receive. The puzzle of Real Madrid's squad numbers continues to unfold.
