Kylian Mbappé is the most talked about soccer player in the world right now. His goals, dribbles and assists on the field wow fans every weekend, but that's not what makes him the news every day. It's his future that interests newspapers, TV shows and social media.

A few days ago he assured in a press conference that he has not yet made a decision on what he will do at the end of the 2023/24 season. His contract with Paris Saint-Germain will expire on June 30 and, if he does not activate the automatic extension clause until 2025 or agree to a renewal, he will become a free agent and will be able to leave the club without paying a cent.

This scenario worries PSG fans, who fear losing their top star. But the club's owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi, is calm and optimistic whenever he is asked about this situation. "I have a very good relationship with him. A great player and a great person. He spoke after the French Super Cup match and said he had an agreement with me. That's true. There are not many negotiations at the moment," he said this week in an interview with Rothen s'enflamme.

However, there are other parties in this story that stand to lose a lot if 'Kiki' decides to leave PSG. Among them is Ligue 1. The French league is currently negotiating the sale of broadcasting rights of the matches for the period 2024-2029 and no doubt the money they will receive will be much less if Mbappé's departure is confirmed, considering that last summer they already lost other stars such as Lionel Messi, Neymar Junior, Marco Verratti and Sergio Ramos.

How much money do they want?

According to AS, Ligue 1 originally intended to agree to a €1 billion (almost $1.1 billion) contract for the sale of broadcasting rights for matches, with €800 for domestic tournaments and €200 for international tournament matches. However, they were unsuccessful in obtaining that amount and so negotiations are continuing. But without Mbappé, things could be even more difficult.
