Emmanuel Adebayor counts some of England's biggest clubs Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Crystal Palace as former clubs, so he knows what it takes to succeed in the Premier League.

The African football icon has added his voice to the ongoing transfer saga involving Nigeria and Napoli red-hot striker Victor Osimhen, who has been heavily linked with several English teams.

It sounds like Chelsea might have won the race for the reigning African Footballer of the Year, and Adebayor believes he can follow in the footsteps of his idol Didier Drogba and write his own chapter with the Blues.

"The Premier League is the toughest and best (league) in the world," the Togo football legend said peaking to BBC Sport Africa.

"Osimhen has shown and done it already in Italy, I think it is the right time for him to move to England and replace his idol Drogba and do beautiful things.

"He has all it takes to make a name and write a great chapter in England like Drogba."

New contract

Osimhen signed a one-year extension with a release clause with his Italian club before he left for the Africa Cup of Nations which kicks off in the Ivory Coast this week, where he will represent the Super Eagles.

A big performance for the Naija City Boys could raise the fee beyond the 100 million mark expected to be paid to convince Napoli to consider letting go of their star striker.

Considered one top five strikers in the world right now, he is expected to also command a high salary as well but Adebayor believes he will be able to cope with the pressure of being a high earner.

"He has the right attitude, mentality, and determination to excel there (in England)," the African football icon added.

"I'm praying for him to move to the Premier League and show what he's capable of."

Nigeria is in Group A at the AFCON, together with Equatorial Guinea against whom they open the tournament on Sunday, as well as the hosts Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau.
